New York Army National Guard 1st Lt. Aidan Butler, a Manhattan resident, assumes command of Charlie Company, 119th Division Sustainment Support Battalion
CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. — New York Army National Guard 1st Lt. Aidan Butler, a Manhattan resident, assumed command of the Guard’s Charlie Company, 119th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, during an Oct. 24 ceremony at Camp Smith Training Site, near Peekskill, N.Y.
Butler replaced Capt. Marconi D’Auria-Gupta, who led the company since 2024.
Charlie Company is headquartered in New York City, in the Harlem community, and was previously known as the 719th Composite Truck Company.
It is now the designated composite truck company providing heavy and medium tactical transport, personnel movement, and logistical sustainment in support of the 42nd Infantry Division, 369th Division Sustainment Brigade, 369th Division Special Troops Battalion, and the 119th DSSB, which is responsible for providing command and control to Northern Command in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear event.
Lt. Col. David Myones, commander of the 369th Division Special Troops Battalion, presided over the ceremony and commended D’Auria-Gupta for superior leadership throughout an intensive operational cycle, preparing the company for large-scale combat operations.
The company previously executed extensive road march operations and heavy tactical transport missions spanning hundreds of miles across multiple states in support of exercises such as Operation Sustain Thunder.
“You push the boundaries of tactical proficiency,” Myones said. “Your impact was felt profoundly in service to our home state of New York.”
Reflecting on command, D’Auria-Gupta emphasized the impact that his Soldiers had on not only the company’s success, but also his personal growth and development as a leader, mentor, and human.
“A company commander exists because of their Soldiers, not the other way around,” he said. “I’ve had the honor of serving as your commander, but the truth is, I’m the leader I am today because of you all.”
D’Auria-Gupta added, “I understand, now more than ever, the privilege that command truly is.”
During the ceremony, the company’s guidon, or colors, was transferred from D’Auria-Gupta to Butler, charging the new commander with the care and combat readiness of the company's Soldiers.
Butler joined the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Fordham University in 2019 and earned his commission in May 2023 as a transportation officer before later being redesignated as a logistics officer.
From June 2023 to March 2025, Butler served as the rear-detachment operations officer for the 1569th Medium Truck Company while the unit was deployed to the southwest border. During that period, he also participated in Command Post Exercise and Warfighter training exercises with the 42nd Infantry Division prior to the division's mobilization to the Middle East.
In 2025, Butler served on state active duty as the acting executive officer of the 1569th Medium Truck Company during the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision support mission.
Most recently, from March 2025 until assuming command in October 2026, he served as a platoon leader and executive officer for Alpha Company, 119th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, formerly the 133rd Composite Supply Company.
During his remarks, Butler said he was honored to assume command of Charlie Company and remains committed to leading with professionalism and integrity.
He also emphasized his dedication to building cohesive and mission-ready teams within the New York Army National Guard.
Butler is a graduate of the Army Basic Officer Leader Course. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in finance with a concentration in financial technology from Fordham University.
In civilian life, Butler works as a compliance analyst at Barclays Investment Bank, where he has been employed for three years.
